Light and compact, standard prime lens bringing impressive bokeh expression to your images.
1. Key Features
With the maximum aperture of f/2, you can enjoy large and soft bokeh in your images. Soft bokeh in the background will transform your everyday moments or portraits into more impactful scenes. Furthermore, the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 employs a 9-blade iris diaphragm that provides a more natural appearance for round bokeh. Also, sharp images with minimal blur can be obtained by using higher shutter speeds even in low-light situations, ensuring reliable handheld shooting.
Thanks to the versatile angle of view with 40mm focal length, the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 covers a broad spectrum of scenes and subjects from snapshots to portraits, all with high image quality. When attached to a DX-format camera, the angle of view will be that of a medium-telephoto 60mm equivalent lens, providing three-dimensional rendering for your portraits.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 realizes a minimum focus distance of 0.29m, letting you get closer to the subject for situations such as taking tabletop photos. It demonstrates large bokeh in the background, especially at the minimum focus distance, allowing you to achieve impressive images that make your subject stand out.
Featuring a length of only 45.5mm/1.8 in. and weight of only approx. 170g/6 oz., you can carry this lens anywhere to maximize the mobility of mirrorless cameras, enabling the capture of various scenes around you with much less burden. What’s more, you can respond immediately to any unexpected shutter opportunities without extending the lens for shooting.
Employing an STM (stepping motor) in the AF mechanism ensures outstandingly quiet, fast and accurate operation. The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 adopts a newly developed small-diameter, high-torque STM that realizes a great balance between compact size and superb AF control performance.
Despite being a compact and lightweight lens, its body has been designed carefully considering dust- and drip-resistant performance with a sealing that prevents any dust or water droplets from entering the lens.
*Perfect dustproof and waterproof performance is not guaranteed under all conditions.
Drive sounds caused by AF/aperture control are minimized. Operational sound is also reduced with a control ring that allows click-less operation, letting you record in quiet situations without worrying about any annoying sounds being recorded.
Smooth operation of the control ring enables natural movie expression by realizing gradual and smooth change of focus and brightness. Functions that can be assigned by the camera to the control ring include focus (M/A), ISO sensitivity, aperture and exposure compensation, thus providing more intuitive operation.
This function effectively reduces shifting of the angle of view that is likely to occur when adjusting focus, allowing users to freely change focus position after setting a composition.
Permits smooth and stable aperture control that delivers natural exposure changes when recording.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 employs a diaphragm unit with its own drive mechanism, letting you achieve precise aperture control via electronic signals from the camera body, realizing stabilized exposure control even during continuous shooting.
